My name is Matthew. I'm a senior graphic design major at James Madison University. I'm from Gaithersburg, MD, and when I'm not designing, you can find me playing video games, baking, writing music, or walking around my neighborhood!
View ResumeI am used to working on projects where graphic design is just a portion of the whole experience. Because of this, when I work on a project, I am concerned with the quality in general, not just the quality of the graphic design. I immerse myself as a user and learn about the history and culture of the subject matter in order to make the best design possible.
One of my favorite things about life is getting to meet people with a wide range of interests and aesthetics. I am fascinated with how people associate design with their identity. When I meet people, I like to ponder: if you had to capture their essence in a moodboard or art/design work, what would that look like? (oftentimes, the people I meet are creatives, so this is pretty easy!)
I like to tackle projects from a wide range of interests and fields. I want to be a flexible designer who’s ready for anything!
I have backgrounds in theater, film, programming, music composition, copyediting, 3d modeling, and game development. This gives me a unique cross-disciplinary approach to design. Film and music can have a dynamic quality with loud and busy/soft and quiet sections, how can graphic design have that too? 3D objects benefit from being viewed at different angles and discovering secrets, can graphic design channel that in its own way? These are the questions I’m asking myself when creating things.
I enjoy Nintendo games and early 2010’s internet culture. I like designs that embody optimism about technology creating a more connected and unified world. I also enjoy plants and organic-feeling design, and how I can combine that with a more technological feel.
